Two Genesis models received the highest safety rating bestowed by a leading rater.

The 2024 G80 and G90 won the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick+ rating.

The large luxury models that were built after October qualify for the rating, while those built before that qualify for the lower-tier Top Safety Pick rating.

That’s when Genesis made improvements to the rear seatbelts, providing “solid protection” to backseat occupants, the nonprofit testing organization said. The change means there’s low injury risk except for the lap belt, which moved onto a test dummy’s abdomen instead of staying in the safety-best pelvic position, it said.
