Toyota boosted sales in May as the semiconductor supply shortage eased, its global deliveries up 10% year-over-year to about 839,000 units.

Sales outside of its home country of Japan were up 7% to more than 721,000, while sales in Japan surged 35% to about 117,000.

The results show that Toyota has recovered from the worst of the pandemic-era supply issues that hampered production across the industry. It was the No. 2 U.S. new-vehicle sales leader in the first six months of the year behind General Motors, Cox Automotive reported.

Toyota, maker of the hybrid Prius, saw its global hybrid vehicle sales jump about 26% in May to more than 261,000 units.
