Ford recalled about 150,000 Broncos due to rear shock absorber failure.

The Detroit-area automaker estimated 30% of the vehicle population has the flaw, which stems from the original shock absorber design. It was still developing a remedy for the problem. Broncos’ shock absorber design was changed last year to better prevent corrosion.

The recall affects the Badlands and Sasquatch trims of the 2021 to 2024 Broncos whose rear shock absorbers may corrode over time, causing the shock absorber reservoir to fall off the vehicle and presenting a road hazard for other drivers.

Warning signals that a vehicle has the corrosion problem and may lose the reservoir include a bouncy ride, noise, and leaking fluid around the rear wheels, according to a recall report on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.

Ford had received more than 550 warranty claims related to the issue. It indicated it was unaware of any crashes or injuries connected with the condition.

The automaker mailed recall notices to owners on Jan. 28 and will mail a second once it devises a remedy. It estimated that parts for a repair will be available in the third quarter.
